Background of the Study
Community-based health screenings are vital in early detection and management of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), particularly among older populations who may have limited access to formal healthcare services. In Kwara State, these screenings offer an opportunity to identify undiagnosed conditions such as hypertension, heart disease, and stroke risk factors among older adults. Regular screening programs can lead to early intervention, which is crucial for reducing morbidity and mortality associated with CVD (Oluwaseun, 2023). Community initiatives that involve local health workers and volunteers have been shown to increase the reach and effectiveness of these screenings, thereby fostering a proactive approach to health management.
In Kwara State, the aging population is growing, and so is the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases. Many older adults, due to financial constraints and limited mobility, are unable to access traditional healthcare facilities regularly. Community-based health screenings help bridge this gap by bringing preventive services directly to the people. These programs not only provide immediate health assessments but also serve as platforms for health education and awareness about lifestyle modifications necessary for heart health. Despite the evident benefits, the implementation and sustainability of such programs face challenges, including limited funding, logistical issues, and varying levels of community participation (Adebayo, 2024). Therefore, understanding the role of community-based screenings is essential for optimizing strategies to detect and manage cardiovascular diseases among older people in Kwara State.
Statement of the Problem
Cardiovascular diseases are a major health concern among older adults in Kwara State, yet many cases remain undiagnosed due to limited access to regular health check-ups. The absence of structured community-based health screening programs exacerbates this issue, leading to late diagnoses and poor management of CVD. Economic constraints, lack of transportation, and low health literacy further hinder older adults from seeking routine medical care. Additionally, the sporadic nature of existing screening initiatives and inadequate follow-up care contribute to the continued prevalence of advanced cardiovascular conditions (Olayinka, 2023). The lack of comprehensive data on the effectiveness of community-based screenings in early detection hampers efforts to develop scalable, sustainable interventions. This study seeks to address these issues by evaluating the role of community-based health screenings in detecting cardiovascular diseases among older people in Kwara State and providing recommendations for improving program implementation and coverage (Bello, 2024).

Research Hypotheses
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on older adults (aged 60 and above) in selected communities of Kwara State. Data will be collected through health screening records, surveys, and interviews with program organizers and participants. Limitations include variability in program quality and potential selection bias among screening participants.
